We have an immediate full time opening for a talented, hardworking individual to join our team at our Statesville, NC location as an Apprentice Lineman up to A Journeyman Lineman. In this role you will:

  • Observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by the cooperative, always making safety your first priority.
  • Learn and practice specialized technical skills in the construction, operation, and maintenance of a reliable electric system under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Assist in basic line construction, maintenance, and service tasks such as setting poles, stringing wire, and using hand tools and equipment safely.
  • Support senior team members by preparing materials, loading/unloading equipment, and maintaining tools and vehicles in good working condition.
  • Make recommendations for changes needed to improve operations in your assigned area as it relates to the position.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with your team members in performing assigned responsibilities.
  • Take an active role in learning from and assisting journeyman lineworkers while progressing toward independent responsibilities.
  • Perform responsibilities in emergency and on-call work under supervision, while gaining knowledge of voltage regulation, fault current, and coordination of line protection devices.
  • Apply developing knowledge of theory to practical tasks, including the sizing of single-phase transformers.
  • Build familiarity with the feeds of all transmission and distribution lines and the operation of substations and switching stations.
  • Complete and maintain forms, records, and reports as required.
  • Work with a positive attitude to reflect the cooperative’s core values.
  • Exhibit your ability to communicate effectively with our members in times of both routine service and outage events.

 

To be Considered for the Position, you should:

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from a Lineman Academy preferred.
  • Possess a Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License, Class A.
  • Have a clean driving record and be able to safely drive a company vehicle.
  • Have the ability to lift and move weights in excess of 100 pounds.
  • Be expected to pull on-call duty after becoming familiar with the region and must be available for emergency work during all weather conditions.
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must live - or be willing to relocate - within a twenty five (25) mile radius of the Statesville, NC office.
