Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician performs accurate and precise laboratory testing to support patient care in a timely manner. This role assists in all functions of laboratory services, ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations, maintaining equipment, and supporting quality assurance initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests using established procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
• Apply proficient blood collection techniques including venipuncture, capillary, and pediatric collections.
• Review test results and logs for technical or clerical errors.
• Generate complete, accurate laboratory reports in a timely manner.
• Verify, report, and document critical alarm values promptly.
• Participate in Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) studies as required.
• Perform and review Quality Control (QC) values to maintain test accuracy.
• Maintain inventory of technical supplies and assist with ordering as needed.
• Perform and document routine and periodic maintenance and calibrations on laboratory instruments.
• Troubleshoot instrument issues and coordinate with service hotlines when necessary.
• Assist other team members with their duties as needed and demonstrate flexibility with shifts and emergency situations.
• Maintain positive working relationships with physicians, outside facilities, and the public.
• Adhere to hospital and departmental policies, OSHA standards, and universal precautions.
• Provide support to management, pathologists, and leadership, including training and mentoring new staff technologists.
• Maintain satisfactory attendance and be available for on-call responsibilities.

Required Qualifications

• Certification or licensure as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Technician.
• Ability to work independently and respond effectively when on call.
• Must have own transportation.
• COVID-19 and flu vaccinations are required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
